Personal Protection Addendum

This subject is the most controversial and maybe the most personal. One maybe the "better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6" or the I will not take life for any reason person.

If you are the latter in this then God bless you and good luck brother.  Scroll down and click the back button. It is a personal sovereign right to defend yourself, your family from harm and theft.  That said you need to think in terms of threat escalation and layered defense.

For a more detailed comprehensive explanation you need to seek training, however generally I mean:

Threat Escalation: Is the dealing with both the possibility of Threats and dealing with threats that are happing in the present and with the proper force.  Do you go out at night in arias of town that are known to have crime & or violence? If you are in that part of town how would you deal with a person or group of people approaching you on foot or in a vehicle?  Someone yelling at you, insulting you but not threaten you is treated differently than a person threaten you.

Layered Defense: You need the right tool for the job. you need to understand what is needed for what job.  If you are attacked by a dog should you shoot it if you carry a gun? Is it legal to do so?  What about telling your neighbor you shot his family dog even if it was his fault it got out and was aggressive.  I remember a saying that "if the only tool you own is a hammer then every thing looks like a nail".
What is good and needed for one problem is not always best for all problems...

My layered defense looks like this: it runs from mild to extreme...
  • Hand to hand self defense (judo, karate, boxing & so on)
  • Weapons (stick, staff, knife, baton)
  • Weapons (mace, stun-gun)
  • Weapons (hand gun, shot gun, rifle)
  • Home - locked doors windows, peep hole in front door, dead bolts.
  • Home - Security bars for doors and windows, kick proof door jams, home alarm system.
  • Home - Video cameras, microphones, seismic detectors, Outside motion detectors.
  • Home - Safe room, Ballistic outside walls, bulletproof glass.

As always make a plan and start doing it.
